17 May Record attendance at BIAFD Spring meeting 2024
With a record attendance of just over 100 delegates at BIAFD’s recent Spring meeting, it was great to see so many members network with one another and learn about important challenges facing the sector.
Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) took centre stage as Jamie Mcleod of Crowe UK gave an overview of the initiative and explained the differences between EU and UK CBAM. Jamie’s session was followed by Andrea Bertaggia of the European Fastener Distributor Association (EFDA) who detailed the work EFDA is doing to support its members.
BIAFD chairman Ian Doherty then shared the association’s position on UK CBAM.
Ian said: “I’m pleased that BIAFD members were in support of our position.
“We’ll now work on a consultation response which will be shared with members so they can make their own submissions to government.
“Having an aligned position is vitally important so I’d like to thank Crowe UK for their advice, EFDA for their input, and BIAFD members for their support.”
The final session of the day was delivered by David Kivlin of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). David explained the role of inspectors and how the HSE’s investigation process works. This was followed by an update from a member who had experienced an HSE investigation and what they had learnt from the incident.
BIAFD would like to thank Cardinal Global Logistics for sponsoring the event.
Gareth said: “When we saw that there was a chance to sponsor the Spring meeting we jumped at the opportunity.
“Our BIAFD membership has led to several excellent working relationship with fellow members and it was great to see a number of them last week.”
